It definitely does not penetrate water in case it is applied in accordance with the Bituline technical catalogue guidelines and TS11758-2.

Does it crack in cold weather?
Bituline does not crack in cold weathers due to the fact that it is manufactured by adding modified bitumen. Depending to its place of usage, they are manufactured to resist temperatures of -5°C, -10°C and -20°C.

Can it be applied as single layer?
Bituline is applied in form of two layers in foundations and terrace roofs. It can be applied as single layer on sloped roofs.

Which colors are available for mineral and aluminous Bituline?
Mineral and Aluminous Bituline is manufactured in various colors. Besides, two tone mineral Bituline membranes are also manufactured in order to be used in shingle details.
Bituline colors can be viewed in our technical brochures and at our web site: www.onduline.com.tr

Does it require maintenance? How long after application should maintenance or repair works be conducted?
In case that Bituline is applied in accordance with the technical catalogues and TS11758-2, it does not require maintenance and repair for many years.

Can it be used in kitchens, bathrooms, swimming pools and saunas?
On condition that the necessary detail works are prepared, Bituline can be used at every place in buildings where water can penetrate.
Walls in contact with earth, foundations, flooring on ground, outer walls where water can accumulate outside the building or located lower than the waterline, balconies, terraces, sloped roofs, wet grounds such as bathrooms, lavatories and WC are the general usage areas of Bituline.
Together with this, Bituline can also be used for water insulation in water depots, artificial lakes and pools, retaining walls, concrete canalettes, car parks, places such as highways, rail systems, bridges and viaducts where high tension can be faced.

Is a special accessory required for inner and outer corner bends on terraces?
Special plastic accessories are available for inner and outer corners.

What should I do for technical assistance?

In case that these are not sufficient, you can call the technical department at our head office via 0216 384 16 00 or ask your questions by e-mail at export@onduline.com.tr

Can Bituline be applied on sloped roofs?
Bituline can be applied on sloped roofs as single layer mineral or aluminous or in form of two layers.

Do the joints of Bituline open by time and leak water?
The joints of Bituline never open if they are adhered correctly. The adhered part acts as a single intact material.

Is water insulation necessary in case that water does not come out of the foundation?
Water insulation is a must in building foundations even if water does not come out from the foundation. Rain water can damage foundations and reinforced concrete irons in the foundations.
Applying insulation to existing building foundations is very difficult and very costly.

Is it enough to make water insulation only at the part of the roof  where our apartment flat is found at?
Water insulation shall be applied to the entire roof. It is necessary to apply water insulation to the entire roof because water can penetrate from to “non-insulated” part to the “insulated part”.

Does water insulation provide protection against earthquakes?
One of the reasons of building collapses during earthquakes is the fact that the non-insulated carrying parts of the structures weaken by being exposed to water. The irons inside the reinforced concrete which are exposed to water rust and weaken in time and lose their carrying specialty. Thus, during the construction phase, by realizing the construction technique in compliance with the ground, using the correct construction materials and protecting the carrying parts of the building during usage in buildings where water insulation is made can provide protection against earthquakes.

Where can we apply for our questions about water insulation?
To gather information about water insulation, you can call our technical department at our head office via 0216 384 16 00 or ask your questions by e-mail at export@onduline.com.tr

Do we need to use pressure bars on the upper edges of vertical Bituline applications?
In case the parts on the line where  Bituline ends leaks water, there is the risk of dampening the parts where the Bituline is adhered. Thus, special aluminum Z profiles shall be used as pressure bars on the upper edges of vertical applications.

Can Bituline be applied on steel roofs?
Bituline is widely used on steel roofs. Application details can be obtained by our technical brochures or via our web site: www.onduline.com.tr

How is the resistance of Bituline against chemical materials?
You can learn more about Bituline’s chemical material resistance at TSEN 13969 Chart A1 and TSEN13707 Chart C1.

Can Bituline be applied without use of primer coating?
Bituline Primer eliminates the adhesion preventive dusts and earths on the related surface and enables a clean surface. It also increases the adherence between Bituline and the concrete surface. Thus, application without Bituline Primer shall not be conducted on concrete surfaces. No primer coating is required for surfaces other than concrete (wood, etc.).

What is the lifespan of Bituline?
Bituline which is chosen according to the place of usage and which is adhered in accordance with the technical details, can perform for a period as long as the lifespan of the building itself.

Can we achieve definite solution for water insulation by using Bituline?
For this purpose, first of all, the right Bituline should be chosen. Definite solution can then be obtained by using the correct accessories complementing the insulation and by high end workmanship.

Does the color of mineral coated Bituline fade?
Due to the fact that the minerals used in Bituline are dried at high temperatures after being painted, their colors do not fade under sun light. However, environmental factors and the efflorescence together with pollution on the minerals can affect the original appearance of the color.

Do Bituline water insulation covers melt in hot weathers?
Bituline is applied through melting by welding torch. The melting temperature during application is at least 250°C. In areas where the temperature under shadow reaches 50-55 °C the heat on the roof surface never exceeds 80-85 °C. Thus, the Bituline water insulation covers applied on the roof do not melt. Bituline may soften due to heat but this situation does not cause corruption on the surface.

Can we walk on mineral Bituline water insulation covers?
One can walk on mineral Bituline water insulation covers for maintenance, repair, and etc. purposes on condition that it is not frequently. However, one should step on Bituline with rubber shoes and take should be displayed to not to damage the Bituline. Besides, one should not step on mineral Bituline coated roofs during very hot weathers. If it is obligatory, the parts to be stepped on should be cooled down by spraying water.

On which surfaces and in which climatic conditions can Bituline water insulation membranes be applied?
Bituline water insulation membranes shall be applied on dry concrete, wood, surfaces free of oil, dust and smooth on a rainless day of which the infrastructure has been specified in our technical brochures and technical details. Bituline shall be kept waiting for a period of 24 hours above a temperature of +5°C and applied in temperatures above of +5 °C.

What can we do to prevent Bituline water insulation membranes to be squeezed by the weight of the building when they are applied under the foundation of the building?
Bituline Maxima series product shall be chosen for  such foundation applications. The thicknesses of the materials shall be chosen in accordance with the following sheet given in TS 11758-2 application standard.
